How to Place Electrodes for a TENS unit
How to Place Electrodes When Using a TENS Unit
#How to safely place electrodes
1. Try starting with the lowest settings.
Then increase them to an effective setting. This will reduce your ability to use the settings too high or too low. Ask your doctor about popular massage spots to relax on your body. Or you can use supporting documentation for TENS
To relieve pain at points, look for pain points with your fingertips and apply electrode pads around it.
The settings are different for each person, because it depends on your sensitivity and your status.
2. Place electrodes at least one inch apart.
This will prevent you from having too much electricity supplied to an area that is too small. (This will help prevent unpleasant impulses going to your central nervous system.)
Turn off the TENS device while you are adjusting the electrodes. You can arrange electrodes in many ways, depending on which way works best for you
You can arrange electrodes by line, in X-shape or in squares, but they must be an inch or more apart.
Example of placing a pair of electrons To create X: negative and positive poles corresponding to a diagonal and another pair of diagonal angles.
3. Adjust the amount of electricity slowly, gradually and carefully.
Start with the machine off, then turn it on when dialing at the lowest setting.
Slowly raise the electric current until you feel a pleasant tingling sensation. If it hurts, the present is too high.
More is not necessarily better. Turning it on too high will not increase the amount of pain relief.
Your body may be accustomed to the effect of a certain level after a while.
4. Remember the settings that are right for you.
Once you know how much electricity is beneficial to you and where the electrodes are located, continue to use that setting
This does not necessarily mean starting at that setting, this can be painful. Start with a low number, then increase slightly until you get the priority setting.
You can use TENS for as long or as often as you want. If you use it for a long time, while doing other things, you can clamp it to your belt or keep it in your pocket.
The amount of time you will use TENS units will vary depending on the condition being treated, the chronic level of your health status and how your body will react.
Please note that using it too often will result in your body being 'used' for impulses. Finally, the effects may decrease over time.
5. Make sure the pads have enough gel or water on them
Not only do you meet a certain set of settings over other settings, it's important to know that having enough gel or water on the pads can also lead to different experiences. Having enough gel or water can help better pulse transmission.
#How to put electrodes - what not to do
1. Do not place electrodes on areas of the body that may be harmful to you.
You should not apply electricity to areas close to your heart or potentially particularly sensitive. Keep them away from you:
- Mouth
- Temple
- Eye Ear
- Front or side of your neck near the main arteries
- Spine (can pass from opposite sides of the spine)
- Left your chest, ie: near your heart
- The front of your chest is symmetrical with one on your back
- Varicose veins
- Scratched skin or a new scar is still healing
- The area is numb
2. Do not use TENS anywhere on your body if you have a condition that makes it unsafe for you.
Some health conditions make using TENS risky:
- If you have a pacemaker or another electrical device in your body, electrical impulses may interfere with these devices or their signals or cause an error.
- If you have epilepsy, you may be more sensitive and it is better not to use TENS.
- If you have a disorder that affects your heart rate / heart rate, your heart may be particularly sensitive to electrical impulses and malfunctions.
- If you are allergic to electrode pads, you can find other allergen-free electrodes.
- If you are pregnant or may become pregnant, do not use TENS without prescription. The risks of using TENS during pregnancy are not known, so do not use it without consulting your doctor. Some women find it helpful to relieve pain during labor pain, but be sure to ask your doctor if it is safe for you and your baby before using it.
3. Do not use TENS while you are engaged in some activity.
These activities make using TENS more risky:
- If you are in a bath, shower or swimming pool, water will change the way and where electricity is done.
- Do not use TENS while you are sleeping.
- If you are driving a motor vehicle, the feeling caused by TENS may be a distraction.
- If you're operating machinery, don't use TENS to avoid unexpected confrontations.
- The electrical impulses that TENS creates do not cause problems for airlines, but ask them before you use it during the flight. You may be fined for using TENS on an airplane.

When a patient is using a home appliance, it is important that they follow the recommendations of this TENS unit's Electrode Instructions, but also follow the healthcare provider's instructions.
The following illustrations are provided by the current Solution. They show that the electrode position is recommended for common areas of the body where pain is treated with TENS therapy. The electrode position diagrams shown here show electrodes for a 2-channel TENS unit, using 4 total electrodes - 2 electrodes on each channel.
When treating with physical therapy, the method used is to reduce pain and increase function. With diverse treatment applications of a TENS unit, this is a perfect complement to many rehabilitation modes. And with the ability to be used by home patients, TENS units are an excellent non-invasive pain treatment alternative to oral medications.
